How to Use This Grade Calculator

This calculator averages your assignment grades so you always know exactly where you stand in any class. It works for both high school and college students, and handles scores entered as percentages or raw points.

Simple Average = Sum of all scores ÷ Number of assignments

Points Average = Total points earned ÷ Total points possible × 100

Example (percentage):
Quiz 1: 88%, Quiz 2: 92%, Quiz 3: 79%
Average = (88 + 92 + 79) ÷ 3 = 86.3% → B
  1. Choose your input mode. Use "Percentage Scores" if your teacher gives you grades like 88% or 42/50. Use "Points Earned" if you want to enter the raw numbers — like 42 points earned out of 50 possible.
  2. Add your assignments. Name each one (optional) and enter the score. Hit "+ Add Assignment" for as many as you need.
  3. Set a target (optional). Enter your target grade and how many assignments are left in the semester. The calculator will tell you what average you need on the remaining work to hit your goal.
  4. Calculate. Your average, letter grade, GPA equivalent, highest score, and lowest score all appear — along with a breakdown bar for each assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

On the standard grading scale: 90–100% = A, 80–89% = B, 70–79% = C, 60–69% = D, below 60% = F. So a 75% is a C and an 82% is a B. With plus/minus grades: 75% is a C, and 82% is a B−. Always check your teacher or professor's specific scale — some use 93%+ for an A while others use 90%+.
This calculator uses a simple average — it treats every assignment equally. If your class uses a weighted grading system (where homework counts 20%, midterm 30%, final 40%, etc.), use our Weighted Grade Calculator instead, which handles those category weights properly.
Switch to "Points Earned" mode and enter each assignment's earned points and possible points separately. For example: Quiz (18/20), Homework (47/50), Test (83/100). The calculator converts each to a percentage and averages them correctly — so a 100-point test isn't unfairly weighted against a 20-point quiz.
Enter your current assignments, then fill in the Target Grade field (90 for an A) and the number of assignments remaining. The calculator will tell you exactly what average you need on the remaining work to reach your goal. If the required score is above 100%, the target is no longer achievable through grades alone — consider asking about extra credit.
Yes — if your teacher drops the lowest grade, simply delete that assignment row using the × button before calculating. Your average will then be computed without that score, matching what your teacher will do at the end of the term.
